Of course, where the magic really happens is in the fights. Sammo Hung and Tony Leung Siu-hung direct the action and stunts, respectively, so you know you’re in safe hands, but Yen’s physicality makes it fly out of the screen. He moves with such speed and grace, it looks superhuman, but he also pours a ton of emotion into it. This is what makes every action sequence in Ip Man so effective. Nothing is throwaway or gratuitous. All of the fights are charged with feeling and meaning.
In September 2011, Tyson gave an interview in which he made comments about former Alaska governor Sarah Palin including crude and violent descriptions of interracial sex. These comments were reprinted on The Daily Caller website. Journalist Greta van Susteren criticized Tyson and The Daily Caller over the comments, which she described as “smut” and “violence against women”.
He went on to add, “So he (friend) said let’s think about putting a tribal mark or something in there. And I said, okay we will do that. So he caked me a couple of days later. He brought up this tribal mark. So I said let’s do it and we did it.” Simple.
On February 11, 1990, in one of the biggest upsets in boxing history, Tyson lost the championship to lightly regarded James (“Buster”) Douglas, who scored a technical knockout in the 10th round. Tyson rebounded from the loss with four straight victories. In 1991, however, he was accused of having raped a beauty pageant contestant, and he was convicted of the charge in 1992.
On March 21, 1914 Wells would fight Tom McCormick for the world welterweight title and defeated him over 20 rounds. But by late 1915, he was decidedly past his prime and he would suffer an empty 17 defeats from 1916 until his retirement in 1922.
Contrary to what one might expect, the tattoo was not planned to carry a deep spiritual meaning. Initially contemplating a design of multiple hearts, Tyson was steered towards a tribal pattern by his tattoo artist, Victor Perez, who suggested something that would be visually striking and more suited to Tyson’s fierce image. Mike Tyson’s face tattoo design draws inspiration from Maori tribal markings, which are traditional symbols of strength and courage — qualities that Tyson resonated with.
Deion Sanders was the subject of another unflattering rumor over the weekend, and the Colorado coach is not happy about it. On Saturday, Denver Sports analyst Jake Shapiro wrote in a column that Sanders had stopped the Colorado band from…
Among the many celebrities who are prominently tattooed, Mike Tyson’s tattoos are particularly interesting. He has been very articulate about the symbolism and what he proclaims are the profoundly personal nature of his tattoos, featuring among others Arthur Ashe, Che Guevera and Mao Zedong. Tyson has stated that his tattoos are powerful personal totems. Tyson’s most recent facial tattoo may be an extraordinary attempt to perform a very public ritual act. Almost all tattoos in traditional tribal cultures are performed as part of a larger elaborate rite of passage between adolescence and adulthood. Tyson may be trying to pull on his “warrior’s” face by getting tattooed in such a visible way.
In January 2017, Tyson launched his YouTube channel with Shots Studios, a comedy video and comedy music production company with young digital stars like Lele Pons and Rudy Mancuso. Tyson’s channel includes parody music videos and comedy sketches.
Corrales was twice floored in Round 10 by Castillo during the lightweight title unification fight. Castillo, the Mexican two-time WBC champion, looked set to have his hand raised box in bing.com victory. Corrales could hardly see Castillo throwing punches in front of him due to his badly swollen eyes, and he intelligently spat his mouthguard out to buy a few seconds to help him recover after the second knockdown. And then Corrales launched a big overhand right that hurt Castillo and sealed the victory.
There is an obvious public policy argument over a company holding copyright over another person’s own skin, and many attorneys would agree that a court is unlikely to make a law preventing someone with a tattoo from having pictures taken of them. The issue in the Hangover case was whether that design could be taken off the face, transferred onto another, and then selling video of that design.
Originally planned as far back as 2008 but stuck in Development Hell for five years, this Wong Kar Wai take on the story may not have beat Wilson Yip’s version to a release, but is tonally on the other end of the cinematic spectrum. The film begins with Ip Man (played by regular Wong Kar Wai muse Tony Leung) rising through the ranks of the Foshan martial arts community, before having to leave for Hong Kong. It weaves this together – using non-linear storytelling – with the completely fictional story of Gong Er (Zhang Ziyi), the heir to a kung fu style known as 64 Hands (essentially a derivative of Baguazhang), who’s avenging the death of her father and who falls in love with Ip Man.
